Lab-Grown Organ Transplant
Seven patients have successfully received bladder transplants where the replacement organ was grown in a lab from the patients own cells. As the new organ is made from the donors own cells, there is no need for anti-rejection drugs and there are fewer complications. This technology may eventually result in additional types of complex organs being developed in the lab. These may include hearts, kidneys and livers.
